Bootcamp Life Week 11 - Feeling the Bootcamp

Only one more week before our final project!!!

I cannot believe how close we are to the finish line. It will be sad not being a student any more. There is this joy and pleasure in being in a learning environment. Where all you need to care about is taking in new things, building stuff with your classmates and passing exams.

That said, I do feel tired. During the first 8 weeks of the bootcamp I felt delightfully relaxed, rested, and energized. Ever since we started React I've felt the struggle for the first time. Not understanding the concepts as fast as usual, feeling exhausted much faster during the day, and wishing the weekend were here.

What I want to do in the next few weeks is to de-stress as much as possible during the day: meditation, taking more breaks and walk outside, do stretching exercises more frequently, try harder to get enough sleep, and have a screen-free time at least a couple of hours before going to bed. The brain will be able to soak up new content better when it feels rested and happy. And we need all of our energy and mental strength to create an awesome final project that will blow people away!

We are currently in Module 4 Week 2 and we've already started working on our module's end project. (There are 5 modules, each 3 weeks long. Usually we do not start the module's group projects until week 3.) The reason that we are starting the project early is that our next topic is more complicated (Redux) and the school wants to give us more time to learn it before we head into our big final project.

This week I am in a group of three with Garren and Sarah. I was excited because I've never collaborated with them on any project before and it is always very interesting to learn from and with new people.

Module 4 Project - Day 1

Brainstorming: Database Modelling

Remember Tony' words:

"Database modelling is like getting a tattoo. You want to get it right the first time."

Spicy Thai Lime and Ginger Chicken Soup

Very yummy - spicy and tangy, full of aromatics

And these are the ingredients - 15 of them!

It was the first time for me to use a whole chicken to cook a broth! With bones and all... (!)

Vietnamese Carrot Pickles

Also a first timer - homemade pickles marinating in rice vinegar, salt, and sugar.

It takes forever to julienne the carrots. And getting them the same size is nearly impossible.

They should be ready in 3 days

A Good School Day Starts With A Not-Good-For-You-But-Oh-So-Yummy Breakfast

Beef Curry Pastry and BBQ Pork Puff - extremely crispy, airy and yummy...

In my dreams the night before I was looking for meat pastries. When I woke up I yelped the best bakeries in Chinatown, took the subway, and did not care if I would be late for school. In the end I wasn't late but Quynh the German Nerd accepting the risk of being late at all, means something...

And That Delectable Goodness Comes From This Bakery In Chinatown

Chinatown bursts of bakeries - it is hard to finally choose where to go.

Blueberry Pancakes

Time Out NYC rates Clinton Street Baking Company's Blueberry Pancakes as Top 3

They were delicious! One of the best I've ever had. They are golden brown and crispy on the outside and fluffy moist in the insisde. When I cut into them they were still steaming! They pancakes dough tastes really yummy, which is not a given. Many pancakes places make pancakes that taste like nothing and only live of the butter and syrup that goes son top.

Nom Wah Tea Parlor

Despite its name, people do not come here for the tea. Although there is a wide selection of tea - and it is cheap! You get a big teapot for $1. The stars are really the dumplings. Affordable, hot, and steaming dumplings, rolls, pastries, ...
